Solaris Operating System Environment Basics
|
This course is designed for people who want to enter the UNIX world to find the scalability, flexibility, speed and stability of this operating system. This course teaches the basics of Solaris. The course is taught on Sun Sparc workstations/servers and on Intel machines.
Objective
To introduce Solaris and UNIX operating system to beginners.
Audience
Students with experience with network operating systems.
Minimum Prerequisites
Basic computer skills. Students should be able to use a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse. Students needs to be able to input commands and control characters from a keyboard.

What will you learn?
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
• Log in and log out of Solaris • Use the Common Desktop Environment tools (CDE) and Gnome window system • Compose command-line strings to perform functions • Navigate the directory tree • Understand file systems and different types of files • Manipulate text files • Create files and directories • Create users and groups • Back up and restore user files and directories • Change permissions of files and directories • Use the vi text editor • Identify and modify initialization files • Use basic system and network commands • Search directories and files • List active user processes and selectively kill user processes • Stop and start processes • Get to know other flavours of UNIX and Linux • Understand volume management |
